L. Abrams
Dean
and Professor of Law
Andy Abrams, whose focus is in sports and education law, was
named dean of the Charleston School of Law in June 2008.
Abrams, a professor of law, is a seasoned college administrator.
Prior to joining the Charleston School of Law in August 2005,
Abrams served in key leadership roles at the College of Charleston.
At the college, Abrams was provost, senior vice president for
strategic planning and administration, and general counsel. He
also was a tenured professor of legal studies.
Prior to joining academia, Abrams, whose scholarly focus is in
sports and education law, was a trial lawyer in Greenville, his
hometown.
Abrams is an avid baseball fan. His "team" is the Brooklyn
Dodgers, which he notes "hasn't lost a game since 1957."
He also roots for the Boston Red Sox.
Abrams has a bachelor's degree in political science from Furman
University. He received his law degree from the University of
South Carolina School of Law and a master's in law degree from
the University of Virginia.
Abrams lives in downtown Charleston with his wife, Karen. They
have two children: Courtney Abrams, 25, and Alex Abrams, 16.
