Nathan Crystal
Distinguished Visiting Professor of Law

With more than 30 years in legal education, Distinguished Visiting Professor Nathan Crystal has established himself as one of the nation's preeminent teacher-scholars, according to Dean Andy Abrams.

Author of critically acclaimed law books in the fields of contracts and professional responsibility, Crystal will teach courses in the field during the 2008-09 school year.

Crystal, who has a master's in law from Harvard Law School (1976) and a law degree with honors from Emory Law School (1971), taught at the University of South Carolina law school from 1976 through this year, when he retired. At USC, he served as the Class of 1969 Professor of Professional Responsibility and Contract Law from 1999-2008. He held a similar position from 1991to1999. He also served as associate dean from 1987to1992.

Crystal is widely published in legal circles, including serving as author of a text on professional responsibility now in its fourth edition. The 2008 book, Professional Responsibility: Problems of Practice and the Profession, is used at more than 30 law schools around the country. Additionally, he is co-author of Problems in Contract Law: Cases and Materials, which is used at more than 80 law schools nationally.

Highly regarded as a speaker, Crystal has lectured and presented papers to more than 100 professional organizations and academic audiences worldwide.
