Simpkins, who will continue to teach constitutional law and comparative
constitutional law, added, "We see this as an opportunity
to address issues of diversity in all of its facets so that everyone
who is part of the Charleston School of Law community will feel
welcomed and valued."
Gershon said the school wanted students at all levels to know
that a career in law was an option.
"We are planning to do outreach at elementary schools, middle
schools and high schools to tell our story," the dean said.
Before joining the law school last year Simpkins taught political
science at Furman University and was associate director of the
Richard W. Riley Institute at Furman University. A graduate of
Harvard University with a law degree from Duke University, Simpkins
is a native of Lexington, S.C.

for a Better South based in Charleston.
