Toal
to speak to law school students on opening day
CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 11, 2006 - - S.C. Supreme Court Chief
Justice Jean Toal will address the 600-plus students of
the Charleston School of Law at noon Thursday, the first day of
classes for the new school year.
"It's always exciting to have Justice Toal on our campus
to talk with our students," Dean Richard Gershon said. "It's
also a great way for us to kick off the new year."
Toal's speech will mark the first time that three full classes
of students have been under one roof since the school opened its
doors in August 2004. Her remarks, which will focus on the law
as a profession, will be at noon Thursday at the Gailliard Auditorium
on Calhoun Street in Charleston. It's also the first time the
school has used the venue - - which was needed to hold all of
its students in one location.
Full-time students in the new Class of 2009 will start a three-day
orientation on Monday. Part-time students in the new class will
have orientation on Saturday, Aug. 19, and Monday evening, Aug.
21.
