CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 23, 2006 -- U.S. District Judge Patrick Michael Duffy will kick off the Charleston School of Law's fall Professionalism Speaker series at noon Wednesday with a speech that focuses on why students should be proud to become lawyers. The lecture will be in the auditorium of the Charleston Museum on Meeting Street.

Duffy

Duffy also is newly named to serve as a distinguished visiting professor at the school and will offer periodic lectures on pertinent and timely legal issues.

"We're excited to have Judge Duffy as part of our visiting faculty to interact with our students on a regular basis," said Dean Richard Gershon. "He will bring a wealth of practical and valuable experience to our classrooms."

Duffy, a graduate of The Citadel and University of South Carolina School of Law, served in the military and as an assistant county attorney before entering private practice. His practice focused on civil litigation, including admiralty, aviation, commercial, environmental and construction litigation. Prior to taking the bench in 1995, he also had an appellate practice. He has lectured widely, including lectures at the University of South Carolina School of Law and the U.S. Department of Justice's National Advocacy Center.
