10/21: Media coverage of Roberts' speech:

OCT 3, 2006 -- Chief Justice of the United States John G. Roberts, Jr. will speak Oct. 20 to Charleston School of Law students and area lawyers at Gailliard Auditorium, the school announced today.

"We're thrilled and honored to host the chief justice," Dean Richard Gershon said. "Not only will it give our students an outstanding chance to hear directly from the nation's top jurist, but it highlights how the school serves as one of the community's new leaders."

South Carolina's U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who invited Roberts to the law school, will introduce the chief justice during the 3 p.m. event on Oct. 20. Roberts then will follow with brief remarks.

"We appreciate Senator Graham's help in getting Chief Justice Roberts to visit the Charleston School of Law," Gershon added.

After the chief justice speaks, he will answer questions as part of a panel discussion comprised of four panelists:

  • U.S. Court of Appeals Chief Judge for the Fourth Circuit William W. Wilkins of Greenville;

  • U.S. District Judge Patrick Michael Duffy of Charleston;

  • Charleston School of Law Professor John L.S. Simpkins of Charleston; and

  • Ashley Rockwell, a third-year Charleston School of Law student.

Only students and invited area lawyers will be able to attend. The event is not open to the public.

MEDIA NOTE: The media will be able to cover the remarks only from a special media area. More details on media registration will follow.
