OCT. 2, 2007 - - Dozens of students took part today in the Charleston
School of Law's first Public Service Exposition held to raise
student awareness on the importance of public service agencies
and pro bono work. Among the participants were South Carolina
Legal Services, Crisis Ministries, the Center for Heirs Property,
the S.C. Commission on Indigent Defense, Guardian Ad Litem and
the Charleston County Public Defenders' office.
Recent graduate Jeff Yungman said the exposition
was beneficial because "it exposes students to the wide variety
of public interest agencies available in the community."
Attorney Rita Roache of the South Carolina Legal Services found
the exposition necessary. "Because so many of our lawyers and
law students look for the lucrative high paying careers, this exposition
reinforces that it is not always about the dollar as there are people
out there who are desperately in need of our help," she said.
"This is also a good opportunity for different public interest
agencies to network with the Charleston School of Law to forge future
partnerships and endeavors."
