sponsor Law School Preview day for area undergrads
Charleston, USC, Charlotte law schools to
help explain admissions process
CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 26, 2008 - A free October
event hosted by three Carolina law schools will offer an innovative
way for area undergraduate students to learn more about law
school, its benefits and how to apply.
Law School Preview Day will be held 9 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in Charleston at the Charleston School
of Law. The event is co-sponsored by the Charlotte School of
Law and the University of South Carolina School of Law.
"Our law school is excited to co-host this
dialogue with the University of South Carolina School of Law
and the Charlotte School of Law because we believe it important
to showcase legal career options to minority and first-generation
college students," said John L.S. Simpkins, an assistant
professor of law who directs the Charleston School of Law's
Office of Diversity Initiatives.
Law School Preview Day is designed to help people
from under-represented groups and first-generation college students
learn more about the law school admissions process, career options
available to law school graduates and how to prepare for law
school classes.
"Information and mentoring provided by programs
such as Law School Preview Day are critical to achieving a diverse
legal education," Simpkins said. "We're trying to
help students better understand the law school process so they
can offer stronger applications and join the legal community."
