Students
to benefit from Court of Appeals session here
The U.S. Court of Appeals
for the 4th Circuit will meet Monday in Charleston
MARCH 2, 2005 -- Having one
of the nation's most powerful courts to meet on two cases in Charleston
will be a great benefit to students learning about the legal process,
said Charleston School of Law Dean Richard Gershon.
"It's a great opportunity for our law students to witness
the Fourth Circuit federal Court of Appeals because it provides
them with an opportunity to learn more first-hand about the process,"
he said. "For the Court to meet here is a tribute to the
respect that Charleston's legal community has throughout the nation."
Chief Judge William W. Wilkins of the Fourth Circuit will lead
a three-member panel that hears two cases at Physician's Auditorium
on the College of Charleston campus. Proceedings will start 9:30
a.m. Monday and should be finished by noon, Gershon said. Students
are expected to attend the day's session. There is some space
available for members of the public, but seating is limited.
Wilkins, a Greenville native,
is a distinguished visiting professor at the Charleston School
of Law.
