school hires two more professors for full teaching slate
Beckman will teach family
law; Eliz. McCullough will teach commercial law
APRIL 26, 2005 - - Two experienced lawyers will
join the Charleston School of Law faculty in August to bring the
total number of professors at the new law school to 12, Dean Richard
Gershon announced today:
"The Law School is indeed lucky to have Syd Beckman and
Elizabeth McCullough to join its faculty," Gershon said.
"Their commitment to providing the best legal instruction
for our students is unsurpassed. We look forward to having them
in Charleston this fall."
McCullough, who has represented a variety of commercial
lenders since joining Finkel & Altman LLC in Columbia in 1985,
served as co-lead counsel for the trustee in the HomeGold Inc./Carolina
Investors bankruptcies, the largest bankruptcy in South Carolina
history.
A graduate of the University of Virginia with a bachelor's degree
in biology, McCullough graduated with honors from the University
of South Carolina School of Law in 1984. She also has a master's
degree in biology from USC. She also is a former law clerk of
Judge Robert F. Chapman of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth
Circuit. McCullough is married to Ralph McCullough, provost of
the Charleston School of Law.
Beckman, an author of several legal books on family law,
practiced law with Goodman, Clark & Beckman in Arlington,
Texas, for several years during which he also served as a municipal
judge pro tempore in Fort Worth and a visiting associate judge.
He also has served as an adjunct professor at Texas Wesleyan University
School of Law.
A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a bachelor's
degree in psychology, Beckman received his law degree from Baylor
University School of Law in 1991. Most recently, he is co-author
of Texas Family Law - Direct & Cross Examination.
