CHARLESTON, S.C., Aug. 16, 2005 - - The incoming Class of 2008
at the Charleston School of Law is packed with outstanding students
in every way, Dean Richard Gershon said today.
Almost 200 students are undergoing orientation this week at the
Charleston School of Law prior to the start of classes on Thursday.
Some 136 students are starting the school's full-time program
this week; 61 students are starting the part-time program.
"This year's class - the second to begin their legal education
at the Charleston School of Law - has excellent credentials to
join the legal profession as its newest members," Gershon
said. "Like last year's class, our new students exceed the
national median on standardized admissions tests and college achievement.
"That's a phenomenal achievement for our school as it seeks
provisional accreditation this year."
The school, which opened in August 2004, is not eligible for
provisional accreditation until August 2006.
"We're doing everything we can to create the best legal
environment for our students so they can become full-fledged members
of the Bar when they graduate in 2007," Gershon said. "We've
hired a dynamic, experienced full-time faculty that features more
than 15 professors. Our student-professor ratio is 20-1. Our library
offers thousands of documents from online sources and books. And
we've got a diverse course offering that competes with the best
schools in the country.
"All in all, it's an exciting time at the law school - not
just this week with the newest students, but in general because
of our bright future.
