Law school continues to get highly-qualified applicants
Free application process ends December 31

DEC. 15, 2005 -- Prospective law students who want to attend the Charleston School of Law have until the end of the year to apply for free, school officials said today.

The school is on track to have more than 200 applicants by the end of December, said Associate Dean John Benfield, who is in charge of the admissions process. The school expects to have more than 900 applications by the spring. The final application deadline is March 1, 2006.

"As in years past, our pool of applicants is an extremely competitive group," said Benfield, who has toured the South over the fall to recruit students to the two-year-old law school. "Based on the applications we've already received, it's highly likely next year's entering class will be as talented - or even more talented - than our two classes of students already enrolled."

Students seeking admission to the school must have applications postmarked by Dec. 31, 2005, if they want to get a waiver of the $50 application fee. Application materials are available on the school's Web site - - www.charlestonlaw.org.

Open house set for Jan. 21

Earlier this fall, the school hosted two highly-successful open houses for interested first-year students and their families. Another is scheduled at the school's 81 Mary Street facility from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006. Anyone who wants to attend should register with the Office of Admission (info@charlestonlaw.org or 843.329.1000).

"This open house will give prospective students a great chance to meet other students and professors and to immerse themselves in the school's academic environment," Benfield said. "They'll also be able to learn more about the admissions process and financial aid."

He said admissions trends at the Charleston School of Law show its standards are continuing to rise, which will make it harder over time for students to qualify to attend.

"The bottom line is that if you're thinking about our law school, now is a good time to apply," he said.
