Law school foundation sets up firefighter memorial fund

JUNE 22, 2007 - - The Charleston School of Law Foundation has created a special memorial fund to assist family members of the nine firefighters killed in Monday night's tragic fire.

One of the firefighters, Capt. Louis Mulkey, was the husband of student Lauren Bennett Mulkey. Capt. Mulkey, 34, had been with the department for 11.5 years.

"These devastating losses are a very personal tragedy to us at the law school and throughout the community," Dean Richard Gershon said today. "We hope the creation of this fund will generate resources that can be a great help to the victims' families as they heal in the months ahead."

The Charleston School of Law Foundation is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Contributions are tax-deductible.
